Darwin’s Deadly Deception and the Devil’s Gospel, Part

Over
the last two weeks, I have discussed what Darwin did not do concerning the
hypothesis of evolution. Darwin did not invent the hypothesis, nor did he show
it to be true scientifically. However, today, I want to finally state what I
believe Darwin did do that has made his name synonymous with evolution? In
short, on November 24, 1859 he published his most famous book: On the
Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or The Preservation of
Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life
Darwin updated
this significant work of his, culminating with his final 6th edition
published in January, 1872. This book, more than any other book in history,
was the turning point for much of western scientific thought away from a
creationist’s view of the history of life to that of an evolutionist’s view of
life (common decent).
Even with the
geological compromises of James Hutton and Charles Lyell before Darwin, most scientists in Europe still believed in a supernatural origin for the
different life forms on earth. However, Darwin was able to change this mindset
with the following points put forth in the ‘Origins’:
1. Darwin demonstrated the creationists to be wrong by showing that species were not
immutable.
2. Darwin showed that species were multiplied on the earth through the forces of natural
selection, or the preservation of favored races in the struggle for life.
3. By Darwin showing the creationists to be wrong on point 1, and he being shown to be right on
point 2; evolution was assumed by many to have the better explanation for the
origin and diversity of life.
Some may think it
is odd that a creationist as myself would state the above points concerning the
results of Darwin’s book on ‘Origins.’ However, I hope you will continue with
me in this series as we go through each of these points. We will see that although points 1 and 2 were correct, point 3 was a wrong assumption that has resulted in a deadly deception driving many away from the only Creator Who is also the one and only Savior.
